Site Objective

My-Epiphany was created in response to the growing antiscience movement. While there is an abundance of recent research and literature on the subject, I wanted to better understand the public's growing science illiteracy and distrust of science ("antiscience").

This subject was explored in 1997 by Carl Sagan in his book The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark. Carl Sagan argued that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions. Ignorance and the absence of critical thinking are not just a cultural wrong turn but a dangerous plunge into darkness that threatens our most basic freedoms.

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”

Antiscience is a rapidly emerging and quickly evolving topic. It changes daily due to political dynamics, social media amplification, and global politics and events. My-Epiphany affords readers the opportunity to scan and review the many daily postings and publications relating to antiscience.

Site Content

Related topics and references are added on a weekly basis. The site is database-driven to ensure that all topics and references can be easily searched, filtered, and cross referenced.

Topics are kept short to enhance readability while references and citations are included for readers seeking greater topic detail.

Readers are encouraged to challenge site content and to forward any content contributions or corrections.

Building and maintaining My-Epiphany has provided the opportunity to research and better understand antiscience and its many future implications. It has served to enhance my personal awareness and insight, my epiphany if you will.

Artificial Intelligence

Most topics were build with artificial intelligence to assist content management and to better ensure scope, currency, and relevance. All topics are reviewed and their citations checked prior to their inclusion. As always, however, it is the reader's responsibility to question and challenge topic content, ideas, and arguments. Skepticism, critical thinking, and online content validation are a central premise of this site.
